1. What
is a domain name? Domain
names are the familiar, easy to remember names
for computers on the Internet.
They correspond to a series of numbers called
Internet Protocol numbers (IP
address) that serve as routing addresses on the
Internet. Domain names are used generally
as a convenient way of locating
information and reaching others on the Internet. For
example, the Domain name planet4domains.com represents
the company Planet4domains
or Dot Solutions. When you type planet4domains.com
in a web browser,
the Domain
Name System (DNS) translates planet4domains.com
to the IP address used by
the internet and connects you to Planet4domains.
2. What
is an IP address? Every computer on the
Internet has a numeric address called IP Address
that is used to identify
the location of the computer. An example of an
IP address is 204.254.222.1.
This kind of addressing system is cumbersome and
hard to remember
for humans. Having a domain name will eliminate
the need to remember an IP address. Technically
a web address is an addressing construct used
for identifying and locating computers on the
web.Whilecomputers use Internet Protocol (IP)
numbers to locate each other on the internet,
itis very difficult to remember such long names.
To overcome this hurdle, Domainnames were developed
which permit the use of easily remembered words
andphrases which collectively form your Domain
name.
3. What
is a DNS? DNS
stands for "Domain Name Server". It
translates domain names into IP addresses
that computers understand. For example, if someone
wants to access website

domain into the IP address, which
will allow the computer to locate planet4domains
web server.
